ISO 9001 renewal: evidence, expiry and edition transition
Plan ISO 9001 renewal with actual system changes and current certificate status; separate recertification from edition transition.
Establish the current status and renewal route
Check the legal entity, certificate number, sites, activities, edition and current status with the issuer. Distinguish routine surveillance from recertification at the end of the cycle. An enquiry or paid invoice does not extend a certificate’s validity. Discuss a missed assessment or expiry with the competent body; do not present an expired certificate as current while waiting for a new decision.
Review the system since the previous assessment
Map changed activities, sites, workforce, outsourcing and customer requirements. Provide current process results, complaints, internal assessments, management review and action effectiveness. In a hypothetical added production site, show its operation and responsibilities rather than only inserting its address into the previous certificate. Read the proposed audit and scope-change assumptions, with follow-up for unresolved findings.
Separate renewal from the new standard edition
ISO publishes ISO 9001:2026 and has withdrawn 2015 from the catalogue. Existing certificate status and applicable transition arrangements require issuer verification. Publication does not automatically renew a certificate, approve an issuer for 2026 or extend accreditation. Ask which edition and requirements govern the planned assessment, what transition evidence is needed and how timing affects the actual certificate. Do not infer a universal deadline from a generic three-year cycle.
Compare written costs and verify the outcome
Separate internal implementation, consulting and site changes from recertification, surveillance, travel and additional assessment charges. A preparation consultant does not make the independent certification decision. After issuance, verify number, entity, activities, sites, edition and status, with accreditation checked separately. A quality-system certificate is not product approval or a guarantee of acceptance by every customer.
Preparation and independent decision
ISO does not issue certificates. Verify the proposed issuer, standard and activity against any claimed accreditation scope. Consultancy cannot guarantee approval; the competent body evaluates evidence and makes the independent decision. The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
Official sources and application limits
The added-site example is hypothetical. No extension, renewal or favourable decision is guaranteed; the issuer’s current rules and official status govern the case.
