amfori BSCI: social audit and improvement process

Start with the customer, member and RSP

amfori BSCI is a social-risk assessment and continuous-improvement programme, not certification. Ask the requesting customer whether it is an amfori member, can hold responsibility as RSP and will invite the actual producer to the Sustainability Platform. Only the responsible member can request and approve the BSCI audit. Paying for preparation or holding an ISO certificate does not establish this programme access.

Prepare the actual site and workforce evidence

Define the real production site, processes, workers, labour providers and subcontracted activities. Compare payroll, recorded attendance, overtime and payments for the same people and period. Prepare worker participation, complaints, age checks and occupational-safety evidence according to the programme and site. These are planning inputs, not an invented universal form set; records must agree with site observations and worker interviews.

Worked example: missing hours in a payroll comparison

In a hypothetical factory, overtime appears in attendance records but not in wage calculations. Investigate the discrepancy, the affected workers and the actual payment rules; record correction and steps to prevent recurrence. A newly signed policy cannot close an unresolved payroll gap. Keep reliable original records and documented explanations; preparation must not conceal findings or manufacture evidence to obtain a favourable rating.

Follow the report and the improvement actions

The audit produces a report and rating, not a BSCI certificate or a general legal-compliance approval. Discuss access and sharing through the programme with the member, then assign findings, owners and evidence of improvement. Follow-up depends on the actual report and applicable programme rules. The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. An enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
