ISO 30000 Safe and Environmentally Sound Ship Recycling
ISO30000:2009 addresses safe and environmentally sound ship-recycling management. A system certificate is not a ship survey or permission to operate a recycling facility. The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system.

Define the entire recycling operation
Describe ship acceptance, hazard assessment, dismantling, material storage, waste/recycling streams and contracted routes. Match these to the facility’s controlled activities and personnel. A scrap sale alone does not demonstrate control from acceptance to final disposal; ship-specific information must inform the work.
Connect the ship to the work plan
In a hypothetical vessel with a hazardous-material area, identify the location, affected work, competent people, control and downstream handling before dismantling. Incomplete information is a planning gap, not justification to assume no hazard. Address emergency arrangements and worker welfare alongside operational controls.
Check authorisation and assessment roles
The Hong Kong Convention entered into force on26June2025; applicable facility authorisation and ship-recycling plans belong to the competent regulatory route. ISO30000 certification does not replace them. Provide facility, activities, workforce, ship acceptance and control status. ISO30003 sets ship-recycling certification-body requirements; verify issuer competence and any claimed accreditation for this exact scope. In a hypothetical waste handover, link the identified material and quantity to storage controls, the authorised receiver, transport evidence and acceptance record. Investigate a mismatch between the outgoing quantity and received quantity instead of treating a signed form as the whole control. Keep regulatory permissions distinct from system evidence. This example describes a possible evidence trail, not a completed recycling operation or a prescribed universal waste procedure.
Standard edition and programme limits
ISO 30000:2009 concerns the management system of a ship-recycling facility. The Hong Kong Convention entered into force on 26 June 2025. Facility authorisation, ship-related plans and other applicable regulatory requirements follow separate routes; an ISO system certificate does not automatically supply these permissions or approvals.
ISO does not issue certificates. Verify the proposed issuer, standard and activity against any claimed accreditation scope. Consultancy cannot guarantee approval; the competent body evaluates evidence and makes the independent decision. The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
Official sources and application limits
The operating examples are hypothetical, not customer events or guaranteed decisions. The actual standard and competent body determine requirements.
