BRCGS Food Safety Certificate Food Safety Issue 9
BRCGS Food Safety assesses product safety and quality practices at a food manufacturing site. Issue 9 must be read with the applicable position statements, including those effective from 10 August 2026. A packaging plant or farm does not automatically belong to the same scope.
Scope and current rules
For an initial Food Safety discussion, send a site brief showing legal entity, address, food groups, processing steps, shifts and outsourced work. Add the customer’s requested scope, current audit history and available production evidence. Mark unresolved scope questions so a quotation is not mistaken for approval of the application.
Connect preparation to real production
Assign a site contact to confirm the brief and collect representative batch records. The preparation team compares hygiene, hazards, allergens and traceability with actual production; the approved body confirms its scope and audit arrangements. Record which gaps need operating evidence before progressing, rather than promising a certificate from a completed questionnaire.
In a hypothetical application, a producer introduces an allergen-free claim on a line also handling milk. Describe the claim and shared line together when defining scope. Follow one example batch through production sequence, changeover cleaning, verification and label approval instead of attaching only a cleaning instruction. If results do not support the claim, record the preparation gap and its owner rather than present the product as compliant.
Independent decision and consultancy
Separate immediate correction, cause analysis and action preventing recurrence. Later production records should show whether the action works. Review new products, lines and supplier changes for their effect on scope and hazards; continuing certification follows official rules and the certification body’s programme.
Kayra Patent consultancy supports scope definition, record organisation and tracking unfinished preparation work. The relevant authorised or scheme approved body performs the audit and makes the certification decision. Separate consultancy and that body’s services in the quotation.
