Organic cosmetics: certified inputs and formula calculation
Build organic provenance and the correct formula calculation for COSMOS ORGANIC; one certified oil does not certify the finished product.
Define the finished product and calculation basis
COSMOS ORGANIC assesses the complete cosmetic under the private scheme, not merely the agricultural origin of one ingredient. Identify product category, formula version and the applicable calculation rules in COSMOS-standard 4.2. Water, minerals and agro-ingredients require the correct treatment; do not put all formula mass in an invented organic numerator. COSMOS NATURAL is a different outcome.
Worked example: oil evidence does not cover an extract blend
In a hypothetical lotion, an organic oil is replaced by an extract diluted in a carrier. Obtain the actual composition, organic-content evidence, supplier identity and batch records; compare these with the formula calculation. A certificate for the old oil cannot prove the new blend’s organic fraction. Recalculate the relevant values and submit unresolved evidence to the authorised body before retaining the organic label.
Connect supply, production and certification decisions
Match certified ingredient identity and scope to purchases, incoming batches, production records and finished variants. Review processing, cleaning, packaging and proposed label against the selected programme. COSMOS APPROVED non-organic material is not certified organic material or a finished-product certificate. Kayra can prepare this evidence; the authorised body decides certification and signature use. Separate preparation, external assessment and corrections without guaranteed fees or dates.
Questions before applying
Does one organic ingredient make the product organic?
No. The finished formula and programme requirements are assessed, including the correct organic-content calculation and production evidence. A supplier’s oil certificate is only one input.
Can water be called an organic ingredient?
Do not invent an organic percentage. Apply the selected standard’s actual definitions and calculation rules to the product category and full composition; have unresolved calculations reviewed.
What happens after a supplier or formula change?
Compare the changed material and organic evidence with the certified formula, update the calculation and production trace, and obtain the required body review before extending the old claim.
