Vegan products: evidence, programme and licence
Select the actual vegan programme, trace ingredients and process aids, control shared production and obtain the owner’s product-specific licence.
Identify the programme and actual products
A generic vegan statement and the Vegan Society’s Vegan Trademark licence are not the same result. Identify each product, variant, brand and manufacturing route before choosing a programme. Its criteria cover animal ingredients, by-products and derivatives, animal testing within the stated responsibility boundary, and cross-contact controls. Certification of one item does not extend automatically to every item sold by the same company.
Worked example: a processing aid missing from the label
For a hypothetical fruit drink, the front label shows plant ingredients but the clarification aid’s origin is unknown. Obtain the aid’s supplier composition and manufacturing evidence, then connect it to the process and batch. A missing origin cannot be closed by the label alone. For a coated textile variant, also review finishing inputs rather than copying the drink’s file; product-group evidence and processes differ.
Review shared production and licence boundaries
Map storage, transfer, shared lines and cleaning of animal-origin contact risks against the selected programme. The Vegan Society requires practical minimisation controls; preparation is not a promise that any shared site will be accepted. Kayra may assemble supplier questions and application evidence, but the programme owner decides its licence and logo use. Review formulation and production changes, separate external charges and corrective work, and avoid guaranteed price or completion date.
Questions before applying
Does a plant-only front label prove vegan status?
No. Review the full ingredients, derivatives, carriers and processing inputs with traceable supplier evidence, plus the selected programme’s testing and contact-control requirements.
Does the licence cover the whole company?
Do not infer that. Match the actual licensed products, variants, brand and conditions; unreviewed new items do not inherit permission from a company logo.
What happens after a process change?
Compare new inputs and production with the approved file and seek the programme’s required review. An existing statement or consultant opinion cannot replace the owner’s licence decision.
