BRCGS Food Safety Who Issues the Certificate?
A BRCGS Food Safety certificate must be issued by a BRCGS-approved certification body. Auditors work for a body, whether employed or contracted; an independent auditor cannot issue a BRCGS certificate in their own name.
Who can issue a BRCGS Food Safety certificate?
Before accepting a proposal, identify the contracting legal entity and check its current Food Safety approval in the official certification-body listing. Match the site, products and processes to the proposed audit scope. A consultant listing or training-provider approval is a different role and does not authorise certificate issuance.
Separate audit findings from the certification decision
The auditor prepares the audit report. The certification body then has an independent individual or panel review that report and the organisation’s response to non-conformities, and approve or decline certification. A positive remark at the closing meeting is not the final certificate decision.
Hypothetically, a freelance auditor offers a certificate on personal letterhead after an interview, without a named approved body or its review process. Request the body’s identity and written audit arrangement before proceeding. A payment receipt, personal qualification or BRCGS logo cannot fill that authority gap.
Define the preparation support you are buying
The food business remains responsible for implementing controls and supplying genuine records. Consultancy can assist with the HACCP review, gap analysis and preparation of corrective-action evidence. The agreement should identify these deliverables separately from certification-body audit and decision services.
Kayra provides preparation support described in the agreed scope. This page does not establish Kayra as a BRCGS-approved certification body or approved consultant. Check any claimed approval against the official list, and verify an issued certificate’s site, scope and current status through the applicable Directory access.
Official sources
BRCGS approval of a certification body is the relevant issuing authority. Audit, independent review and certification decision remain with that body; Kayra’s agreed consultancy support does not replace them.
Can an independent auditor issue the certificate?
No. BRCGS states that all auditors must work for a certification body; an independent auditor cannot issue a BRCGS audit certificate.
Does consultant approval mean certificate-issuing authority?
No. Consultant recognition and certification-body approval concern different roles.
Is the closing meeting a certification decision?
No. The certification body’s independent review of the report and corrective actions precedes approval or refusal.
