BRCGS Packaging Materials Issue 7 and P708 Changes
Packaging Materials Issue 7 is read with P708 version 1, published 12 May 2026 and effective 10 August 2026. It clarifies specified requirements; it is not a separate certificate or a new issue of the standard.

Identify materials, intended uses, manufacturing processes and the responsible owners. Compare the applicable clarification with current instructions and actual records before closing the preparation gap; an old Issue 7 checklist alone does not demonstrate the change.
Check responsibility for threat assessment
P708 clarifies training for the individuals or team responsible for threat assessment and product defence. Connect the assigned role to relevant training and the person's actual work, rather than count attendance sheets only.
Hypothetical example: a new member signs a training register but cannot explain the site's relevant threats or review procedure. Record the gap, arrange suitable training and check understanding in the actual task. A signature is not enough to close the competence question.
Relate cleaning to intended use
The cleaning clarification addresses disinfection where appropriate and risk-based validation and verification, considering activity and intended use. It does not establish one mandatory chemical, test package or frequency for all packaging factories.
Hypothetical example: a printing process changes ink, but the previous cleaning method is retained without examining residues and the packaging's use. Review suitability and evidence, assign the necessary correction and check effectiveness. The approved body evaluates the programme; consultant records alone do not guarantee certification.
