CERTIFICATION & COMPLIANCE GUIDE

BRCGS Packaging Materials: Who Audits and Issues the Certificate?

BRCGS defines the Packaging Materials programme, while an appropriately approved certification body conducts the certification process. Use the official Directory to check the proposed body for Packaging Materials and confirm the intended site's activities in writing. A logo, consultancy course or another programme's approval is insufficient.

Identify the issuer for the actual programme

Separate responsibilities: the site operates its controls; preparation support organises evidence; the certification body audits and decides under its process. A consultant or independent auditor cannot issue a BRCGS certificate simply by delivering an inspection report.

Do not transfer Food Safety approval to a packaging converter

Hypothetically, a customer recognises a body's Food Safety listing and assumes it can certify a packaging converter. Check the actual Packaging Materials approval and ask the body to confirm the materials, converting or printing processes and intended certification scope before agreeing the contract.

Retain the Directory check and written scope response. If programme approval or the issuer is unclear, seek confirmation through official channels rather than alter the certificate template. A body name on a report and a site's product test report are different evidence from a valid programme certification decision.

Keep audit, review and site obligations distinct

The audit evidence and any required corrective work feed the certification body's review and decision. Do not promise a grade or certificate from a preparation example. After issue, check the site, address, scope and status; a site certificate does not replace legal product requirements for every packaging application.

Kayra can help compare the proposed programme scope and organise the agreed preparation file. This support is not an assertion that Kayra is an approved BRCGS certification body. The approved body retains certification authority, and the business retains its actual product and operational responsibilities.

BRCGS programme ownership, approved-body certification and consultancy preparation are separate roles. Check the actual Packaging Materials approval; no Kayra issuer status or outcome is claimed.

Does Food Safety approval automatically cover Packaging Materials?

Do not assume so. Check the actual programme approval and scope with the body.

Can a consultant issue the BRCGS certificate?

No. The appropriately approved certification body controls certification.

Does a site certificate approve every packaging use?

No. Confirm actual scope and the relevant product and legal requirements.
