Separate the three IFA cost components
Prepare production area, products, number of sites, location and the proposed certification option before requesting a quote. Identify any preparation measures separately. Use the current official fee table for the programme charges and the approved body’s written proposal for its services, rather than an old all-inclusive figure.
Check that competing quotes cover the same work
Hypothetically, a grower compares the programme registration and licence amount with a body’s offer including audit and travel, and assumes the body is overcharging. First separate those components. Ask which fees are passed through, which services are included and whether preparation support or taxes are additional.
If the grower adds a greenhouse and another crop, update the area and proposed scope before finalising the proposal. A lower figure obtained by omitting a real production site is not an equivalent offer. The assessment of new coverage and the actual audit arrangement still belong to the approved body.
Budget for implementation without buying an outcome
Implementation may require changes to procedures, staff practices or evidence collection. Determine these needs from actual gaps; the official fee table does not price every farm’s corrective work. Agree how any additional consultancy or external services will be authorised before they incur costs.
