İTU and GLOBALG.A.P. IFA: Different Programme Authorities and Buyer Requirements
Türkiye’s İyi Tarım Uygulamaları (İTU) programme operates under the Ministry’s regulation with authorised control and certification bodies. GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) is a separate farm-assurance programme with its own documents, approved certification bodies and information platform. Similar agricultural practices do not turn one certificate into the other.
Identify which programme the transaction needs
Record the requested product, producer, production sites and intended buyer claim. Ask whether the buyer requires Turkish İTU, a particular IFA edition or additional conditions. Neither a commercial request nor international branding removes applicable Turkish legal duties; do not describe all farms as legally required to hold both certificates.
Compare actual coverage before booking assessment
Check each body under the relevant authority system: Ministry KSK authorisation for İTU and programme approval for the required IFA solution and scope. A body approved for one route is not automatically approved for the other. Reusable production evidence still has to meet the chosen programme’s actual requirements.
Hypothetically, a cherry exporter has a valid İTU document, but the purchase contract expressly asks for IFA GFS for the identified orchards. Clarify buyer acceptance and the applicable IFA route before promising supply. Do not rename the İTU PDF or infer GFSI recognition from a general good-agricultural-practice description. If both routes are needed, define separate scope and decision evidence rather than sell a presumed conversion.
Confirm edition and decision responsibilities
GLOBALG.A.P. distinguishes Smart and GFS. Its technical news states IFA 6.1 Smart was published on 1 September 2026, with validity and replacement dates to be communicated; 6.1 GFS remains subject to recognition before publication. Ask the approved body which edition is applicable. Do not declare the earlier Smart certificate invalid solely because a new text was published.
The producer implements the actual requirements; each authorised or approved body assesses and decides under its own programme. İTU article 18 expressly bars KSK consultancy. Before a Kayra request, establish its actual permitted role, authority and independence without assuming dual programme approval or a separate consulting entity. Neither route proves that produce is organic or entirely free of hazards.
Official sources
Confirm buyer requirements and each programme’s actual scope, edition and authority before treating certificates as equivalent.
Can an İTU PDF be converted into IFA by changing its title?
No. Each programme needs its own applicable assessment and decision.
Does the 6.1 Smart publication itself invalidate earlier certificates?
No. Check the communicated validity and replacement arrangements with the body.
Does good agricultural practice certification mean organic?
No. Organic claims have a separate applicable route.
