ISO 14001 application: from activity to environmental controls
Define the activity boundary, significant aspects and obligations before assessment.
Decision and conditional example
In a hypothetical surface-treatment plant, map water, chemicals, energy and outputs; office recycling bins do not represent the production process. Explain significant-aspect selection and operational responsibilities. Link applicable permits and other obligations to the system. Establish a target using baseline data, a measurement method and activity volume. Internal audits and management review reveal implementation gaps. For the independent application, disclose sites, shifts, processes and the intended standard edition. Publication of a new edition alone does not complete either the organisation’s transition or the provider’s accredited-scope update.

Standard and authority boundaries
The current ISO catalogue edition is ISO 14001:2026. Publication alone does not determine an existing certificate’s status or extend a body’s accredited scope. Confirm edition and transition arrangements with the issuer. A management-system certificate is not an environmental permit, a zero-pollution claim or a guarantee that every legal condition is continuously met.
Kayra’s role and the independent decision
The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. ISO publishes standards and does not certify organisations. Verify the chosen body’s current standard edition, activity coverage and any claimed accreditation. Preparation does not guarantee approval, legal compliance or authority to certify a newly published edition. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
