BIA, recovery time and data recovery: connect targets to impact
Business impact analysis examines how disruption affects the organisation over time; risk assessment examines causes and likelihood or consequences of disruptions. The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system.

BIA, recovery time and data recovery: connect targets to impact
Business impact analysis examines how disruption affects the organisation over time; risk assessment examines causes and likelihood or consequences of disruptions. Recovery-time objectives, minimum acceptable capacity and any relevant data recovery objectives must follow the actual activity and dependencies. They are related decisions, not interchangeable figures copied into a spreadsheet.
Conditional operating example
For a hypothetical order service, a server restored quickly may still leave orders unfulfilled because stock data, trained staff or delivery coordination are unavailable. Set targets for the activity and its resources, explain assumptions and test whether the strategy can meet them. A data recovery point matters where information loss affects the service; it should not be applied mechanically to every activity.
Use impact analysis to set priorities
Business impact analysis examines how disruption consequences develop over time and which activities need recovery first. Risk assessment addresses disruption causes and their treatment; it is not the same list. ISO/TS 22317 guides a documented impact analysis without prescribing one uniform method. Management should justify time objectives and resource requirements.
Standard edition and programme limits
ISO 22301:2019 specifies business-continuity management-system requirements; the 2024 amendment is distinct from a new edition. Certification does not guarantee uninterrupted operation or an identical service level in every disaster. Business impact analysis, resource dependencies, continuity strategies and exercise results must relate to the actual certified scope.
ISO does not issue certificates. Verify the proposed issuer, standard and activity against any claimed accreditation scope. Consultancy cannot guarantee approval; the competent body evaluates evidence and makes the independent decision. The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
Official sources and application limits
The operating examples are hypothetical, not customer events or guaranteed decisions. The actual standard and competent body determine requirements.
