ISO 22301 questions: backup, plans and business continuity
An IT backup alone does not establish continuity of the whole business.
Decision and conditional example
Restoring a system is not the same as processing orders, giving staff access and having suppliers available. Business impact analysis makes those activity and resource dependencies visible. An exercise may review a plan or enact a specific scenario; state its objective and evaluation method. Certification does not promise uninterrupted operation in every disaster. A limited certificate scope cannot be extended to every group company. Preparation and exercise support differ from the independent certification decision. Evaluate the actual recovery claim against evidence rather than accepting the presence of a plan document alone.

Standard and authority boundaries
ISO 22301:2019 specifies business-continuity management-system requirements; the 2024 amendment is distinct from a new edition. Certification does not guarantee uninterrupted operation or an identical service level in every disaster. Business impact analysis, resource dependencies, continuity strategies and exercise results must relate to the actual certified scope.
Kayra’s role and the independent decision
The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. ISO publishes standards and does not certify organisations. Verify the chosen body’s current standard edition, activity coverage and any claimed accreditation. Preparation does not guarantee approval, legal compliance or authority to certify a newly published edition. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
