ISO 50001 audit: trace a performance claim
Compare indicator calculations with site implementation and measured results.
Decision and conditional example
For a selected significant energy use, an audit may examine data source, baseline and performance change. A leak-repair claim needs maintenance evidence together with measurement and activity conditions. Incorrectly matching a production variable can create a misleading improvement figure. Review the comparison method when meters or processes change. Link a nonconformity to the requirement and the data or implementation gap, then follow correction effectiveness. Audits do not guarantee a particular saving percentage. The audit team and the impartial certification decision have separate responsibilities; the provider’s sales estimate is not the evidence standard.

Standard and authority boundaries
ISO 50001:2018, including consideration of its 2024 amendment, addresses an energy management system. Energy review, performance indicators and an energy baseline support evaluation of performance. Certification is not a fixed percentage saving, a substitute for an energy-study service or automatic satisfaction of every energy-law duty.
Kayra’s role and the independent decision
The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. ISO publishes standards and does not certify organisations. Verify the chosen body’s current standard edition, activity coverage and any claimed accreditation. Preparation does not guarantee approval, legal compliance or authority to certify a newly published edition. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
