Is ISO 9001 mandatory? Contract, tender and activity requirements
Separate voluntary system use from a specific buyer’s certificate condition.
Decision and conditional example
A contract may request ISO 9001: verify accepted entity, activities, sites and edition in writing. Another branch’s certificate does not automatically answer a production-site requirement. Determine product and sector duties separately through official sources; a quality-system certificate alone does not satisfy them. If a tender specifies accreditation or verification conditions, examine the exact wording. Plan preparation, independent assessment and other product-conformity work separately. Publication of the 2026 edition does not itself explain the buyer’s or issuer’s transition arrangements. Decide against the written requirement and actual scope, not a universal certification claim.
Evidence linked to this purpose
- Contract or tender wording
- Entity, activity, site and edition
- Separate product and sector duties
Standard and authority boundaries
The current ISO catalogue edition is ISO 9001:2026. Withdrawal of the 2015 edition from the catalogue alone does not determine an existing certificate’s status. Confirm applicable edition, transition arrangements and the issuer’s accredited coverage separately. Quality management-system certification is not product approval or a guarantee of flawless delivery on every order.
Kayra’s role and the independent decision
The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. ISO publishes standards and does not certify organisations. Verify the chosen body’s current standard edition, activity coverage and any claimed accreditation. Preparation does not guarantee approval, legal compliance or authority to certify a newly published edition. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
