ISO/IEC 27001 application: information, risk and control scope
Start with the information, processes, sites and external services in the system.
Decision and conditional example
A hypothetical software provider processing client data in an external cloud connects information flows, responsibilities and supplier interfaces to scope. Risk assessment is not a copied asset or control list; consider information-security outcomes in context. Risk treatment and the Statement of Applicability explain the selected controls. Implement controls and monitor results; internal audit and management review establish readiness. Disclose information, services, sites and edition for application. Certification is not a promise of no attacks or security of every product. Verify the assessment body’s relevant competence and coverage separately from preparation support.
Evidence linked to this purpose
- Information flow and external-service boundary
- Risk treatment and Statement of Applicability
- Control implementation and results
Standard and authority boundaries
ISO/IEC 27001:2022 with its 2024 amendment addresses an information security management system. Risk assessment and treatment, the Statement of Applicability and control results must relate to scope. Certification does not guarantee no attack, security of every product or satisfaction of all data-protection duties.
Kayra’s role and the independent decision
The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. ISO publishes standards and does not certify organisations. Verify the chosen body’s current standard edition, activity coverage and any claimed accreditation. Preparation does not guarantee approval, legal compliance or authority to certify a newly published edition. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
