ISO/IEC 27001 questions: SoA, cloud and security guarantees
The Statement of Applicability explains control decisions rather than perfect security.
Decision and conditional example
The SoA connects control selection and implementation status with risk-treatment justification. Marking every catalogue heading as implemented does not explain the real scope. An external cloud provider’s certificate does not remove the organisation’s access and data-processing duties. A penetration test can support technical evidence, but cannot replace assessment of all management-system requirements. Certification is not a guarantee against attack, breach or every data-protection failure. Verify entity, activities, information boundary, sites and current certificate status. A logo or a supplier certificate alone cannot establish the organisation’s own system conformity.
Evidence linked to this purpose
- SoA and risk-treatment rationale
- Cloud and organisational responsibilities
- Technical testing versus system assessment
Standard and authority boundaries
ISO/IEC 27001:2022 with its 2024 amendment addresses an information security management system. Risk assessment and treatment, the Statement of Applicability and control results must relate to scope. Certification does not guarantee no attack, security of every product or satisfaction of all data-protection duties.
Kayra’s role and the independent decision
The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. ISO publishes standards and does not certify organisations. Verify the chosen body’s current standard edition, activity coverage and any claimed accreditation. Preparation does not guarantee approval, legal compliance or authority to certify a newly published edition. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
