Is ISO/IEC 27001 mandatory? Data duties and contracts
Verify information-security duties separately from the certificate request.
Decision and conditional example
A buyer may request ISO/IEC 27001: specify information, services, entities and sites in writing. A cloud provider’s certificate does not automatically answer the customer’s request for the organisation’s own system. Determine data-protection and sector duties separately through official sources; do not assume ISO certification satisfies them. Confirm the requested edition, accreditation and verification route. Excluded products or units cannot be declared secure on that basis. After certification, the organisation remains responsible for access, incidents, risks and changes. Plan those continuous duties separately from obtaining the independent assessment document.

Standard and authority boundaries
ISO/IEC 27001:2022 with its 2024 amendment addresses an information security management system. Risk assessment and treatment, the Statement of Applicability and control results must relate to scope. Certification does not guarantee no attack, security of every product or satisfaction of all data-protection duties.
Kayra’s role and the independent decision
The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. ISO publishes standards and does not certify organisations. Verify the chosen body’s current standard edition, activity coverage and any claimed accreditation. Preparation does not guarantee approval, legal compliance or authority to certify a newly published edition. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
