ATEX questions: component evidence, assemblies and workplace use
Distinguish component attestation, complete equipment conformity and the employer’s installation duties.
Does a component document approve the assembly?
No single component record automatically establishes conformity of a complete assembly. Identify whether the supplied item is equipment, a protective system, a component without autonomous function or another relevant device. Review the actual integration, interfaces and conditions of incorporation; the legal treatment depends on the product, not the seller’s preferred certificate label.
ATEX components follow applicable conformity procedures but are excepted from ATEX CE marking and the EU declaration of conformity. The manufacturer provides the specified written attestation with component characteristics and incorporation conditions. This exception does not establish that other applicable legislation has no marking or documentation duties.
Hypothetical case: motor and enclosure combined
A supplier combines a motor and enclosure with individual Ex documents and assumes they approve the finished driven machine and its workplace installation. Obtain the assembly boundary, actual combinations, mounting/interface details and all component conditions. Identify gaps concerning interactions, heat, mechanical loading or other relevant ignition questions for competent review.
Ask the actual assembly manufacturer to explain the complete assessment and selected procedure. Preserve limitations in the constituent records instead of treating their logos as a whole-machine approval. No particular failing result is assumed: the practical decision is whether supported integration evidence exists for the supplied configuration.
Does product conformity clear the workplace?
Product conformity and safe workplace use are separate responsibilities. Under the workplace framework, the employer assesses explosion risks, classifies relevant areas and maintains an explosion-protection document. Equipment suitability, installation, maintenance and operating controls must reflect the actual conditions; a product document cannot settle those site questions alone.
Kayra can help organise product records and the questions to the responsible parties. It does not assign an unknown zone or issue workplace clearance through this product-support service. The next step is a documented assembly-coverage explanation and a separate suitability comparison against the responsible employer’s actual use information.
