CE questions: documents, components and changed products
Resolve common CE questions through the product’s evidence and legal role instead of assuming one universal certificate.
Does a CE-marked component cover the finished product?
Not automatically. The manufacturer of the finished product must assess the applicable requirements for that product, including integration risks. Obtain the component’s specification and evidence, then identify what they support in the completed configuration. A component declaration is useful input but does not by itself become the finished product’s declaration.
Hypothetical question: an installer adds a new control cabinet to an assembly and reuses the original declaration without reviewing the change. Compare the original intended use and assessed configuration with the modified assembly. Escalate the effect of the change; simply retaining the same sales name is not a conformity assessment.
Must every product have a notified-body certificate?
No single answer applies to all CE-marked products. The actual legislation and assessment procedure determine third-party involvement. Where it is required, verify the body’s designated product and task scope. Where manufacturer assessment is permitted, the absence of a voluntary certificate does not itself establish nonconformity.
A supplier’s claim that an organisation is “European accredited” does not answer this question. Ask for the precise law and procedure, then compare any proposed body’s official designation. The next action is scope verification, not purchasing a certificate merely because its cover displays familiar European symbols.
Does CE expire or guarantee unrestricted sale?
The mark is not a universal annual subscription. Keep the supporting evidence current and review product, manufacturing or legal changes; any required body certificate may have its own conditions. CE also does not replace every other obligation associated with sale, importing, instructions or safe use. Read the applicable rules for the actual transaction.
Kayra can help organise these questions and identify missing inputs, without guaranteeing legal acceptance or assigning the manufacturer’s duties to a consultant. For an unresolved product classification or independent decision, seek the competent technical specialist or correctly designated body and record the boundary of the advice received.

The records needed to resolve CE questions about documents and product changes depend on the confirmed scope. Current, consistent and traceable information reduces avoidable revisions.
