How to start EN 1090 assessment: define scope and demonstrate real controls
Begin with the supplied structural product and manufacturing route. Prepare actual controls and relevant evidence, clarify outsourced work and apply to the appropriate body without treating a prepared manual as completed assessment.
Define the application before requesting an assessment
Identify the component or kit, intended structural use, responsible manufacturer, sites and actual operations. Separate design inputs, fabrication and outsourced work. Confirm applicable specification, current citation and CPR route, then identify the body’s required tasks and designation scope. A request for “EN 1090 for the company” leaves the product and assessment boundary unresolved.
Compare existing controls and results with that scope. Assign the actual gaps to responsible people and plan the necessary work before the assessment request. Distinguish preparation of procedures from their implementation: a signed manual does not show that materials, work and release of the supplied component have been controlled.
Include outsourced work in the real production route
Conditional example: a manufacturer fabricates frames but sends them to an external galvanising plant. A damaged coating is repaired after return, while the original release record was completed before the repair. The application needs the actual route, subcontracted work and resulting release evidence; an earlier signature does not describe the final supplied state.
Keep component identity through dispatch, return and repair. Determine the applicable acceptance work and who records the real outcome, then resolve any open gap before claiming readiness. Do not prescribe an invented universal coating test or declare the product acceptable from a rewritten procedure. The responsible production and assessment parties must deal with the actual conditions.
Apply with a controlled scope and close actual findings
Present the agreed scope, current records and open issues to the appropriate assessment body. Respond to findings with the real corrective work and supporting evidence; the body decides whether the tasks assigned to it have been satisfactorily completed. A consultant’s readiness report or the application fee is not a positive certification decision.
Kayra can organise preparation, the gap plan and evidence responses. The manufacturer retains control and product responsibility. After the applicable assessment and verification, align declaration and CE information with the actual assessed product and conditions. Track later changes separately; the initial application does not approve every future variation or the whole construction project.
