ETA questions: CE duties, supplier evidence and the proposed installation
An ETA describes assessed product performance; it is not a universal CE approval or building permission. Compare supplier documents with the actual manufacturer, configuration and use before relying on them.
Does the ETA itself finish all CE work?
No. The Commission describes ETA as information about intended use and assessed product performance on an EAD basis. The manufacturer must still complete the applicable conformity-system tasks, declaration and CE duties under the relevant route. A consultant’s dossier and the technical assessment do not automatically perform those separate steps.
Check the issued scope, accepted evidence and current EAD citation with the actual CPR regime. New mandatory performance coverage and transition can change which route is available. Do not treat the ETA number as indefinite CE eligibility or add a CE claim before the necessary assessment and market tasks are complete.
Can I use a supplier’s ETA for a differently supplied variant?
Do not assume so. Read the actual manufacturer, product, variants, intended use and annex conditions. Compare them with the supplied configuration and the available reports. A shared brand, similar photograph or identical catalogue category does not establish that a different material, fixing arrangement or product boundary is assessed.
Conditional example: an ETA’s annex describes fixing to a concrete substrate, but the proposed supplied kit is advertised for a different masonry substrate. Preserve the annex and identify the difference; ask the competent TAB about actual evidence coverage and any necessary action. Do not edit the substrate wording or call one report suitable merely because the fixing has the same trade name.
Does ETA mean the product is accepted for every construction project?
No automatic conclusion follows. Match the assessed intended use, installation conditions and declared performance to the project’s requirements. A product assessment cannot by itself answer every structural, fire, installation or national construction requirement for the complete works. Seek the actual responsible project or market party’s determination where a requirement is unresolved.
Kayra can organise the scope comparison and questions; the manufacturer provides accurate configuration and production information. TAB decides its assessment and ETA action, and other parties retain their assigned conformity or project responsibilities. This page does not verify an unidentified supplier document, classify a particular substrate use or promise acceptance by a buyer or authority.
