GAR questions: fittings, complete appliances and installation duties
Understand what a fitting’s documents establish and why they do not approve the finished appliance or its installation.
Product and incorporation questions
A safety or regulating fitting intended for incorporation can itself fall within GAR. Its declaration includes characteristics and incorporation/assembly instructions to help the appliance manufacturer meet essential requirements. These records do not automatically establish conformity of every appliance into which it could be fitted.
Ask whether the supplied item is a fitting, a complete appliance or another product. Compare function, interface limits and actual integration with the intended design. GAR fittings have CE/declaration treatment; do not import the ATEX component exception or treat a generic supplier certificate as interchangeable evidence under another law.
Hypothetical case: approved valve assumed to clear a cooker
A cooker assembler buys a documented gas valve and assumes its certificate also approves the finished cooker and gas connection at the customer’s premises. Obtain the valve’s complete conditions, burner/control interfaces, mounting details, final appliance configuration and intended gas/pressure information. Identify what evidence addresses the completed appliance.
Keep fitting coverage, appliance conformity and installation suitability as separate decisions. The valve record may be useful, but integration can raise gas-release, flame-control or combustion questions needing actual assessment. No failure is assumed in this example; the decision is whether supported complete-appliance evidence exists.
Separate complete-appliance and site decisions
Correct installation, ventilation, combustion-air supply and flue arrangements depend on actual instructions and applicable site rules. A product certificate cannot prove that a particular room, connection or maintenance practice is safe. The relevant installer and competent local parties must assess their actual tasks; no unknown site condition is filled in.
Kayra can organise the product-record comparison and questions to the responsible parties. It does not issue building or gas-connection approval through this service. The next action is the assembler’s documented coverage explanation, followed by a separate installation/interface check based on the real appliance and location.
