PPE Questions: Claims, Categories and Product Evidence
Questions about PPE need an identified product and use. A generic category answer can hide a different risk or exclusion.
Ask which protection is actually claimed
Describe the worn or held equipment, its purpose, expected environment and combinations. Check Article 2 exclusions and Annex I risks before choosing the procedure. Distinguish PPE product conformity from an employer's assessment of whether equipment is suitable for a particular job.
Category I includes only listed minimal risks. Category II covers risks outside I and III; III covers its specified risks with very serious consequences. Labels such as professional, reusable or safety do not replace that analysis.
Case: sunglasses and observation of the sun
Hypothetically, a buyer assumes that every sunlight filter is Category I and orders it for observing the sun. Annex I's minimal-risk sunlight item expressly excludes observation of the sun. Describe the intended protection and obtain the applicable classification and evidence; do not extend ordinary sunglasses documentation to another use.
Ask whether evidence covers the actual model, filter, size and instructions. A voluntary certificate or authentic PDF does not by itself answer every conformity question. For Category III, the applicable production stage remains distinct from type examination.
Use answers without inventing authority
The manufacturer establishes the applicable route and substantiates claims; the notified body decides its designated assessment. Changes and limitations require review against the actual documents. Public guidance is not a technical approval of an unidentified product.
For Kayra, state the unresolved question and product evidence, then confirm the permitted activity, role and independence. An answer to a general question does not establish notification, guarantee approval or replace safe-use decisions.
Questions for this purpose
Are all sun filters Category I?
No. Annex I expressly excludes observation of the sun from its minimal-risk sunlight item.
Does authentic certification prove suitability for my use?
Authenticity and coverage of the actual model, risk and conditions are separate checks.
Is workplace equipment selection part of the same certificate?
Product conformity does not replace the responsible workplace selection and use assessment.
