amfori BSCI: Do not replace the buyer’s requested output
amfori BSCI is a programme for assessing and improving social risks at production sites; it is not certification.
Do not replace the buyer’s requested output
If a buyer requests a BSCI site report and the producer sends SA8000 certification, clarify acceptance with that buyer before treating the documents as substitutes. BSCI uses its member-linked audit/report and rating process; SA8000 uses an accredited CAB’s certification decision. An A–E rating is not a certificate, and an SA8000 certificate does not create the RSP relationship. Prepare a comparison identifying site, requested programme, actual evidence and who decides acceptance.
Identify who owns the audit request
amfori BSCI is a programme for assessing and improving social risks at production sites; it is not certification. The amfori member holding RSP responsibility requests and approves the audit. A producer should confirm the customer’s membership, ability to hold RSP and platform invitation. A consultancy enquiry or payment cannot replace that authorisation chain.
Define the SA8000:2026 scope
SA8000 concerns workplace conditions and the system managing them. Define preparation through worker rights, recruitment, hours, pay, occupational safety, privacy and grievance mechanisms, rather than treating it as a product quality certificate. SAI’s current standard is SA8000:2026. Confirm in writing which edition the assessment body will use for the proposed audit.
Improvement after the report
Site observations, interviews and documents contribute to the audit assessment. Convert findings into a plan with actual causes and responsible people; agree relevant follow-up needs with the RSP holder and auditing company. Do not describe a BSCI report as an ISO certificate, an unconditional pass or a certificate automatically accepted by every customer. Confirm the particular buyer’s acceptance and access requirements.
