Checking a carbon footprint report and verification statement
To check a carbon result, distinguish the organisation’s calculation report from an independent verification statement.
Read what the statement actually covers
To check a carbon result, distinguish the organisation’s calculation report from an independent verification statement. Match the reporting entity, period, sites or product boundary, criteria, issuing body, conclusion and stated limitations. A PDF title reading “carbon certificate” is insufficient. Where a programme or issuer provides an official validation channel, use it; otherwise request written confirmation through independently obtained contact details. There is no assumed universal public registry covering every carbon report.
An old period is not evidence for a new product claim
Suppose a supplier submits an independently assessed corporate inventory for an earlier year as evidence that a newly introduced product has a specified footprint. The documents answer different questions. Check whether the product, life-cycle boundary and current production evidence appear in a relevant product study. Also examine whether material site or ownership changes affect the comparison. An authentic document can still be inappropriate for the proposed claim; forgery and scope mismatch are separate issues.
Escalate uncertainty without inventing validity
If an issuer cannot confirm a statement immediately, record the missing confirmation and seek the programme’s procedure rather than declaring the result false by default. Conversely, an authentic signature does not remove exclusions or make an old period permanently current. The receiving contract or reporting programme determines acceptance requirements. Kayra can help compare documents and identify gaps; only the relevant issuer or authority can confirm its own decision. No favourable verification or search-engine outcome is promised.
Preparation support and its limits
Kayra can support boundary definition, data mapping, calculation review and report preparation within an agreed consultancy scope. The organisation supplies and approves its underlying information. Independent assessment, programme acceptance and official decisions remain separate. These worked examples are hypothetical, not local customer events. No QRS or Kayra verification accreditation, fixed fee, guaranteed conclusion or universal legal obligation is asserted here.
Primary method sources and application limits
