ISO 45001 training: curriculum and assessment

The curriculum is for supervisors, health-and-safety coordinators, worker representatives and colleagues managing contractor interfaces.

Audience and preparation

The curriculum is for supervisors, health-and-safety coordinators, worker representatives and colleagues managing contractor interfaces. Before enrolment, define workplaces, tasks, worker groups and the participant's actual responsibility. Choose examples that can be discussed safely without disclosing personal health information. Familiarity with the work is important; an introductory management-system class is not authorisation to perform hazardous work or a substitute for occupation-specific competence and required safety instruction.

Learning sequence and expected records

Modules connect organisational responsibilities and worker participation with hazard identification, risk evaluation and selection of controls. Learners distinguish elimination or engineering measures from instructions and personal protective equipment, and connect incident information to improvement without automatically blaming the worker. Contractor coordination, planned changes, emergency arrangements and performance review are addressed according to the selected activities. The learning result identifies who contributes, who decides and what evidence can demonstrate that a control operates.

Planning exercise

A hypothetical organisation wants one course for office supervisors and a coordinator sending technicians to active construction sites. Plan a common system introduction and separate tasks for routine office activities and changing site interfaces. The coordinator must identify host-site information, overlapping work and limits of the visiting team's authority; the office supervisor needs an appropriate task-based assessment. Use anonymised job descriptions and an interface plan. A single office checklist does not adequately assess the site-coordination role, and a training certificate cannot transfer the employer's duties to the course provider.

Assessment and role limits

Assessment requires a justified control decision, a worker-participation record and an explanation of contractor or host responsibilities. Learners identify missing evidence and a way to verify implementation rather than merely listing PPE. Agree the operational scope, knowledge level and permitted examples before scheduling. Kayra may provide the agreed learning and preparation support; competent employers, assessors and authorities retain their own responsibilities. Attendance, successful course work and independent ISO 45001 certification are different outcomes.
