ISO 50001 addresses systematic management of energy performance, including efficiency, use and consumption. It is not an equipment efficiency label or certification of a fixed savings percentage.

01

Define boundaries and control

Identify sites, buildings and processes together with electricity, gas and other energy types. For rented areas, shared meters or outsourced utilities, explain measurement access and operational control. Match invoice coverage to the physical boundary. Another group company’s facility is not automatically included because the application uses a familiar company name.

02

Base the energy review on data

Review consumption and energy use to identify significant energy uses. Explain priorities using operating conditions as well as equipment ratings and improvement opportunities. In a hypothetical compressed air system, leaks, pressure settings and idle operation are different possible causes. The energy team should identify the data needed and the people who understand actual operating conditions.

03

Connect indicators and baselines

Make the energy performance indicator compatible with its energy baseline. If production, weather or operating hours influence consumption, explain how comparison accounts for them. A lower total bill alone may not demonstrate improved performance. ISO 50006 guides the establishment, use and maintenance of indicators and baselines; one identical indicator is not required for every organisation.

04

Application, audit and decision limits

Provide sites, scope, energy types, significant uses, relevant personnel and implementation status. ISO 50003 addresses competence, audit time and site assessment for energy management certification bodies. ISO does not issue certificates; confirm the actual issuer and relevant scope. Training, consulting or payment does not guarantee a positive certification decision. The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.

Sources and application limits

Examples are hypothetical. No fixed savings percentage, customer result or accreditation authority is asserted.
