Programme and responsibilities

Kosher conformity is assessed under the chosen issuer's conditions. OU is a named example with a published application process, rather than a universal authority for every programme. Food safety certification or vegan status alone does not confer kosher status.

Worked decision example

Planning example: A milk-free sauce will use a heated tank previously used for dairy products, and the manufacturer wants a pareve designation. Describe tank, pipework and filling history as well as ingredients. Discuss the requested designation with the issuer; a consultant cannot decide the required equipment treatment. Include ingredient sources, production order and private-label products. Absence of milk from the recipe alone does not establish a pareve decision for that production arrangement.

Preparation and verification

Prepare product lists, supplier identifiers, equipment flow and proposed labels. Match the scope to the issuer's accepted ingredients and production conditions. Its mark requires its actual permission. The OU example does not imply that Kayra or QRS is recognised by OU or authorised to issue its certification.
