ISO 45001: hazard, risk and worker participation
Explain hazard sources and control decisions through the same task example.
Decision and conditional example
Unexpected energy movement during maintenance may be a hazard; establish who is exposed in the actual task. Link risk assessment and control selection to those circumstances. If workers report implementation difficulties, carry the information into decisions and follow-up rather than only meeting minutes. Review changed equipment, shifts or contractor arrangements. Participation does not transfer every technical decision to workers; management responsibility remains. Observation, task evidence or appropriate measurements demonstrate control results differently from a signed form. The example is conditional and must be checked against the real work before selecting controls.
Evidence linked to this purpose
- Task exposure and risk
- Worker feedback into decision and follow-up
- Control results after a change
Standard and authority boundaries
ISO 45001:2018 and its 2024 amendment remain the published framework; a revision project is not a new published edition. Certification is not an accident-free guarantee and does not replace employer duties, required occupational services or operating permissions. Worker consultation and participation are assessed through actual practice.
Kayra’s role and the independent decision
The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. ISO publishes standards and does not certify organisations. Verify the chosen body’s current standard edition, activity coverage and any claimed accreditation. Preparation does not guarantee approval, legal compliance or authority to certify a newly published edition. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
