Cutting under the knife
If the knife starts to spin when it reaches the cutting line, it can cause a fatal injury, confirming the sensing and safe posture chain.
For Paper cutting machine, the applicable CE scope is determined from intended use, energy sources, safety architecture and target market. The risk assessment, technical file, testing and conformity route must be verified against the actual model.

The operator places the paper stack on the cutting line, sets the backrest and starts the print-cutting cycle. Although the hand is a major danger of being stuck under the knife, the moving backrest, airplane, automatic loader and stack remover also create compression zones.
The resolution of the light curtain and the height of protection should prevent the hand from reaching the knife over-the-top or sideways. The distance between the sensor and the cutting line is calculated by the measured stand time; it is written into the maintenance instruction on how to control brake performance as the machine ages.
Although the knife change is rarer than in daily production, it carries the risk of fatal cutting and heavy loading. A transport cover, a special dismantling team, a safe parking position of the knife and authorized personnel procedure are required. Torque and incorrect assembly of the knife connections are explained by the foreman.
The following data shows why even models with the same product name can change the path of conformity.
The protective, control and verification approach shall be based on the actual product cycle.
If the knife starts to spin when it reaches the cutting line, it can cause a fatal injury, confirming the sensing and safe posture chain.
The pressure element that descends before the cutting can pinch the fingers, and the force, openness, and protection functions are measured by machine mode.
The programmed support can clutch the hand behind the paper or the caregiver, requiring rear access and speed control.
A long, heavy, sharp knife can fall or cut the person holding it while moving, providing a safe unfolding time.
Opening the line or maintaining it under the beam without pressure can create unexpected movement, requiring insulation and mechanical support.
The loader, airframe and lifting platform can create new crushing areas in front of the machine.
A single product name doesn't give the same answer for all models.
| The subject | The situation | Product-based evaluation |
|---|---|---|
| The machine's layout | YES, YES | In Turkey, the 2006/42/AT is applied to the paper cutter; the next national compliance is confirmed on the date the cutter is first placed on the market or first served. The knife-carrying system is assessed. |
| EMC | IT 'S A MESS . | EMC scope is assessed in terms of the intended environment; driver and communication patterns affect test requirements. |
| LVD | NO , NOT AT ALL . | The LVD is not applied to machinery as a separate directive; electrical safety objectives are met within the scope of machinery legislation. |
| PED | IT 'S A MESS . | The entire hydraulic system is not an automatic PED; the battery within the scope is analyzed with PS-volume data. |
| ATEX | NO , NOT AT ALL . | The standard paper cut does not have an explosive environment; if the installation has special dust conditions, the cover is reopened. |
| Optoelectronic protection | YES, YES | The resolution of the light curtain, coverage area, distance and failure response are confirmed. |
ISO management system certification does not replace product-specific risk analysis, test evidence and compliance file.
Cutting width, knife circuit, support, loader and stacking systems are defined.
The front-back access paths, light curtain area and knife stand time are recorded.
Double-hand, optical protection, brake monitoring, re-installation and mode behaviour are regulated according to risk outcome.
The sewer, secure parking, pressure evacuation and mechanical support are verified.
The function, electricity, instructions, report and marking are turned off according to the same machine variant.
The cutting width, safety control architecture, brake condition, automatic transmission options, and available measurement records all affect the scope.
Compare the top coverage or other similar risk architecture.
The sensor alone is not sufficient, so the duration, distance, control circuit, rear-access and brake reliability must be verified together.
The design of the machine and the product standard determine which combination is necessary, and the methods of protection are evaluated to compensate for each other's weaknesses.
The force, openness, motion and access to the knife are studied in relation to the assumed pressure being low alone, which does not create general immunity.
If the manufacturer specifies the appropriate equipment, method and training conditions, the authorized user can do so.
The test method and period shall be determined in accordance with the instructions for the control design of the machine, the intensity of use and the risk assessment by the manufacturer.
The new equipment creates access and control interfaces, updating risk assessment, deployment, security functions and reporting if needed.
