ISO 22000 questions: HACCP, batches and certification

Decision and conditional example

The HACCP name alone does not describe every management responsibility. Within ISO 22000, product and process hazard analysis, prerequisites and control measures link to the management system. Certification is not a product certificate for the safety of a particular batch. A universal critical temperature or point list should not be assigned to every business; validate the selected control. For comparison with a scheme such as FSSC 22000, examine its additional programme conditions and recognition separately. ISO does not issue certificates; confirm the provider’s current food-activity coverage.

Standard and authority boundaries

ISO 22000:2018 with its 2024 amendment provides the food-safety management-system framework. A revision project is not a newly published edition. System certification is not a product certificate attesting the safety of every batch. The business retains its food-law and safety responsibilities, including HACCP and prerequisite practices appropriate to its actual activity.

Kayra’s role and the independent decision

The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. ISO publishes standards and does not certify organisations. Verify the chosen body’s current standard edition, activity coverage and any claimed accreditation. Preparation does not guarantee approval, legal compliance or authority to certify a newly published edition. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
