ISO/IEC 20000-1 application: define the service boundary
Identify services managed and delivered to customers rather than only IT tools.
Decision and conditional example
A hypothetical application-hosting and support provider connects the service catalogue, customer requirements and supplier responsibilities. Outsourced infrastructure does not remove service-management accountability. Apply incident, problem, change and service-level arrangements through actual service examples. For a new service, define design, transition and acceptance conditions. Internal audit and management review reveal readiness gaps. Disclose services, customers, units and external-provider boundaries for application. ISO/IEC 20000-3 supports scope definition; verify the independent body’s service-management competence separately. A tool inventory or training qualification is not a substitute for an implemented service management system.
Evidence linked to this purpose
- Service catalogue and customer requirements
- External-supplier responsibilities
- New-service transition and acceptance
Standard and authority boundaries
ISO/IEC 20000-1:2018 remains current and has a 2024 amendment. It sets service management-system requirements; ISO/IEC 20000-3:2019 supports scope definition and ISO/IEC 20000-6:2017 concerns certification bodies. Certification is not approval of a software product, an individual qualification or a zero-interruption guarantee.
Kayra’s role and the independent decision
The applicant implements the system and prepares procedures specific to its own operations and operating records. A certification enquiry to Kayra concerns actual activities, sites, application information, authority and impartiality risks; this role does not include designing or implementing the client’s system. ISO publishes standards and does not certify organisations. Verify the chosen body’s current standard edition, activity coverage and any claimed accreditation. Preparation does not guarantee approval, legal compliance or authority to certify a newly published edition. A management-system certification body, other parts of the same legal entity and controlled entities cannot offer or provide management-system consultancy; separate contracts do not remove this restriction.
