Documents and Records Required for ISO 3834

Adapted: 8 October 2026. Practical guidance reviewed: 15 September 2026.

Direct answer

Prepare a welding evidence matrix for products, processes, materials and sites. Link WPS to the applicable WPQR, welder or operator qualifications, welding coordination responsibilities, material traceability, equipment controls and inspection or NDT records. Check each qualification range against actual production; a document title alone does not prove coverage.

Practical questions for this decision

Are the WPS and procedure qualification record the same document?

The WPS specifies the production welding method; the qualification record provides assessment evidence. Essential variables and use boundaries should agree. A record prepared for another job does not automatically cover every new joint. Check qualification coverage before using different materials or thicknesses.

Do qualified welders remove the need for other organisational evidence?

Welder qualification concerns an individual's defined welding scope. Procedures, coordination, materials, equipment, inspection and records require organisational controls separately. Personnel scope should represent the work's process and materials. Qualified staff do not make every welded product automatically conforming.
