Product certification requires clarity about what the chosen scheme evaluates and which use rights it grants. ISO 17065 is not a product specification replacing the applicable technical product standard.
Product requirements, evaluation methods, technical competence and scheme rules are also needed. Legislation or the scheme owner may require particular authorisations. Training should distinguish general body requirements from technical product criteria. Experience in one sector does not cover every technical decision for another product group.
Read the sample and properties covered by the test alongside the scheme’s production assessment and surveillance conditions. Identify other evidence needed to support a series-production claim. Training should explain with examples how type evaluation, factory assessment and subsequent monitoring outputs complement one another.
Establish review and decision roles in accordance with the relevant standard and scheme rules. The technical file and basis of the decision must be traceable. Training should distinguish the task producing evaluation results from the roles reviewing them and deciding certification. A small organisation does not automatically remove impartiality and role requirements.
Notify the scheme owner or certification body of changes to the production site, process and controls as required by the applicable rule. Further evaluation and a scope update may be needed. The old certificate does not automatically cover the new factory. Training should practise advance preparation and management of the product claim.
Product variants, tests, sites, sample representativeness and follow-up arrangements affect cost. Areas where evidence can be shared need technical justification. Copying an evaluation by changing only a product name is inappropriate. A training example should discuss when product-family grouping requires additional testing.
Record the product and scope of the claim and apply the scheme’s correction and sanction process. Assess the market impact of the misuse. Training should treat customer notification, verification of correction and any change to certificate status as separate decisions. Sending the correct logo file alone does not resolve the issue.
Share the subject, organisation or product, target market, current evidence and target date. The team can then separate consultancy, official fees, independent evaluation and realistic timing.
