What Is the ISO 9000 Family?

The ISO 9000 family separates the shared language of quality management, auditable requirements and improvement guidance across different documents. As of August 2026, ISO 9000:2026 is published, while ISO 9001:2015 remains current ahead of its expected revision.

Direct answer

ISO 9000:2026 defines fundamentals and vocabulary; ISO 9001:2015/Amd 1:2024 contains certifiable quality-management-system requirements; ISO 9004 guides sustained success. Organisations are certified against ISO 9001, not issued a generic “ISO 9000 certificate”.

Implementation route

  1. Define the organisation’s purpose, processes, interested parties and scope.
  2. Use ISO 9000 terminology as a common language for process owners.
  3. Run a gap assessment against ISO 9001 and establish the necessary controls and records.
  4. Verify operation through internal audit and management review.
  5. Where certification is required, select a body with suitable accredited scope and verify the certificate through official channels including IAF CertSearch.

ISO 9001:2026

ISO/FDIS 9001 is expected to lead to a new edition in September 2026. An unpublished draft does not replace ISO 9001:2015. Transition periods and accreditation rules should be followed through official IAF and accreditation-body decisions after publication.
