ATEX technical documents: revisions, risk evidence and production records
Build a version-linked ATEX technical file and reconcile drawings, materials, marking and assessment evidence.
Create a file that explains conformity
Technical documentation should allow assessment of applicable requirements and include appropriate risk analysis. Link the product description, controlled drawings, explanations, applicable references, calculations, examinations and test reports to the actual design. Identify partially applied harmonised provisions and the solutions used for other relevant requirements.
Document the selected procedure and keep type/production records where relevant. For equipment, declaration and marking follow supported conformity; components instead have the applicable manufacturer attestation with characteristics and incorporation conditions. Ten-year manufacturer record retention is a storage duty after placing on the market, not a universal certificate-validity period.
Hypothetical case: current plate, earlier drawings
A dust-handling enclosure has a current model plate but older drawings and a changed gasket supplier. Its file does not link temperature assumptions or instructions to the supplied version. Collect the revision history, actual material specification, manufacturing checks, risk evidence and relevant reports; identify what the existing assessment actually covers.
Resolve discrepancies between the current enclosure and the assessed design. Supplier data may inform the review but cannot automatically prove the complete product meets requirements. Record the competent change decision, any further evidence and the resulting controlled marking/instructions before relying on the file for declaration or release.
Keep evidence usable after delivery
Maintain a clear index of versions, model coverage, annexes and additions, with access arrangements for the responsible manufacturer. Production checks must support continuing conformity, and design or reference changes need consideration. An attractive PDF compilation is not adequate if drawings or evidence no longer identify the manufactured product.
Kayra can help assemble the index, revision links and gap register. It does not replace engineering evidence or the manufacturer’s responsibility. The next action is reconciliation of the gasket/drawing/plate mismatch with a documented technical decision and a file that explains what is covered and what remains unresolved.
