EU Declaration of Conformity: Signatures, Model Lists and Languages

A declaration identifies the product and states the manufacturer's responsibility. Copying a list from a test report can leave significant scope errors.

Questions for your situation

Does the testing laboratory sign the EU declaration?

The manufacturer, or an authorised representative within its permitted mandate, draws up the declaration under applicable legislation. Laboratory reports may support it. Identify the signatory's authority and represented party. Purchasing third-party services does not automatically transfer manufacturer responsibility.

Can several models appear in one declaration?

A shared declaration may be possible if products are clearly identifiable and its basis covers each model. Explain differences requiring distinct legislation or evidence. Show model relationships instead of vague family descriptions. Adding a name does not complete missing tests or assessment.

Which standards belong in the declaration?

Identify standards or technical specifications actually used as conformity evidence, with correct versions. Long unrelated lists do not improve reliability. Verify official publication and coverage when claiming use of harmonised standards. Listing applicable legislation and supporting standards serves different purposes.

Is an English declaration sufficient for every country?

Check language requirements for the declaration and accompanying information in each market. Translation must preserve model, legislation, date and signature meaning. Website language does not determine the destination country. Connect all language copies to the same current declaration version.

Is changing the declaration date sufficient after a product modification?

First assess effects on the technical basis for conformity. Complete necessary further assessment before updating the declaration and related records. Preserve traceability between product revisions and declarations. A new date alone does not address changed designs or legal requirements.

What if an error is discovered after shipment?

Distinguish identity or technical conformity errors from purely formal mistakes. Identify affected deliveries and parties, and distribute the correct version through controlled channels. Investigate risks and measures separately where technical nonconformity is suspected. Record the correction's reason, date and distribution.
