LVD costs and timing: price the safety evidence and dependencies
Build a scoped quotation around models, sample readiness, electrical safety work and revisions without promising a fixed completion date.
Identify the drivers of the quotation
LVD work is priced from the actual equipment and evidence gaps. State variants, rated supplies, intended environment, construction maturity and existing reports. Separate technical review, necessary testing, sample preparation, corrections, document work and translation. A number described as certificate fee conceals the work that may still be required.
Calendar assumptions should identify dependencies: final component selection, accessible design records, representative specimens, laboratory capacity and resolution of failed results. A booked test slot is not a conformity decision. Require the offer to state exclusions, repeat-work conditions and who approves additional work when the product changes.
Hypothetical case: unfinished luminaire variants
A luminaire manufacturer requests one price for a mains-powered family, but the driver and diffuser materials are not final and two mounting arrangements are planned. The existing report concerns an earlier enclosure. Obtain a variant matrix, supply ratings, thermal construction details, mounting information and specimen readiness before comparing laboratory quotations.
Identify which variants need separate justification and what may be represented by a common specimen. Keep that selection as a technical decision supported by evidence, not a sales assumption. Quote the agreed build and review allowance explicitly; do not promise that the cheapest driver substitution will preserve the original results and delivery date.
A usable proposal and next step
Compare proposals for equivalent scope, report access and safety questions. List deliverables, payment stages, cancellation terms and the treatment of redesign or additional specimens. Where a cheaper offer omits necessary evidence, discuss the missing work rather than presenting unlike totals as a meaningful price comparison.
Kayra can help define and coordinate the technical brief, but cannot guarantee a laboratory outcome, authority acceptance or a universal LVD duration. The manufacturer should first approve a stable variant list and nominate the people providing drawings and samples. Those decisions make a quotation reviewable and its timing assumptions traceable.
