LVD after release: review changes and maintain the conformity basis
Manage electrical design changes, production evidence and document updates without inventing a mandatory annual LVD certificate renewal.
Maintain a supported product file
LVD does not establish a universal annual product-certificate renewal cycle. The manufacturer must maintain series-production conformity and take design, characteristic and relevant standards changes into account. Define who reviews component substitutions, revised instructions, complaints and evidence gaps, rather than treating an annual consultancy invoice as continued compliance.
Keep the declaration current and retain the technical file and declaration for ten years after placement on the market. Link the change record to affected models and batches. The storage period is not an expiry date for a product licence and does not permit obsolete evidence to be applied to every later construction.
Hypothetical case: changed insulation and complaints
A mains-powered appliance changes an insulating material after release. Initial production records still reference the old material, while distributors report unusual heating. Compare the change approval, material specifications, assessed construction, affected batch records and complaint information. A renewed ISO certificate or a new voluntary LVD document does not answer those product-specific questions.
Escalate the safety concern to the manufacturer and determine the required engineering investigation and corrective action. Preserve the affected-batch evidence and assess whether withdrawal, recall or authority notification is required by the actual circumstances. Do not wait for a routine annual review to address a credible conformity or safety problem.
Review outcomes and responsibilities
Record whether the changed construction remains supported, requires additional evidence or must be restricted from release. Update drawings, reports, declaration references and production controls consistently. Monitoring should be appropriate to the equipment risks; there is no general rule that every LVD product needs the same scheduled external surveillance visit.
Kayra can coordinate the change and evidence register and help prepare technical queries. The manufacturer retains conformity and corrective-action duties, and competent authorities retain enforcement decisions. The next action is an evidence-based disposition of the change and complaint, with responsibility and affected quantities identified rather than a renewal promise.
