amfori BSCI: Customer Requests, Facility Scope and Improvement
amfori BSCI is not a certification system. It supports assessment and improvement of social risks through facility audit reports and follow-up records.
Questions for your situation
What should be clarified when a customer asks for a BSCI certificate?
Identify the factory, customer relationship and current audit result requested. BSCI uses rated audit reports and improvement processes rather than a pass-or-fail certificate. Ask about buyer acceptance separately. Preparation support must not be presented as the authorised platform audit outcome or customer approval.
Can one report cover two factories belonging to the same company?
Check the audited facility description, address and activities. The second site may have different workers and conditions; one legal name does not create automatic coverage. Keep subcontractors and labour providers visible. Plan required site mapping and audits alongside the customer relationship.
How should preparation address overtime increases during peak season?
Review orders, capacity, shifts, pay and actual hours together. Records only for the audit day are insufficient. Compare worker accounts with documentation and conditions. If capacity or purchasing pressure is a cause, the improvement plan should also address production planning.
Are recruitment fees charged by an intermediary relevant to the business?
Examine workers' actual experience, debt, deductions and access to documents. A no-fee clause alone does not demonstrate practice. Review intermediary records and safe worker interviews. Determine remedy for identified harm and controls against recurrence.
Does a low-rated report always require an immediate new full audit?
Follow-up depends on results and programme rules. Prepare owners, deadlines, root causes and implementation evidence for findings. Allow enough operating evidence to show effects. Audit and follow-up costs depend on those needs; booking a new date alone does not close issues.
Does a favourable report satisfy every customer's conditions?
Check each buyer's acceptance and currency expectations. A BSCI report does not establish every environmental, legal or product safety requirement. Reassess risks when the facility, workforce or subcontractors change. Limit claims to actual report scope and ongoing improvements.
Share the subject, organisation or product, target market, current evidence and target date. The team can then separate consultancy, official fees, independent evaluation and realistic timing.
