CE Conformity: Own-Brand Products, Imports and Multiple Regulations

Start by identifying who supplies the product, its intended use and target market. Applicable legislation and supporting evidence follow from those facts.

Questions for your situation

Can CE marking be placed on every product?

No. CE marking is used under product legislation that provides for it. Consumer sales or product quality alone do not justify the mark. Identify product type, intended use and exclusions. Products outside CE legislation may still have other safety or labelling obligations.

Who is the manufacturer when another factory makes products for our brand?

An own-name or own-brand supplier may assume manufacturer responsibilities under applicable legislation. Arrange design and file access, change approval and serial-production controls contractually. A factory's general certificate does not take over all duties. Identify the brand and actual manufacturing site separately in applications.

Is one test sufficient when several regulations apply?

Identify the risks and requirements addressed by each regulation. Electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility, radio functions and chemical restrictions may require different evidence. A shared file is possible, but one report should not be assumed to cover everything. Map legislation, requirements and evidence to identify gaps.

Is checking the CE mark on an imported product sufficient?

Also check identity, manufacturer details, required declarations, instructions and traceability. Documents must correspond to the imported model. Assess the importer's verification and authority-cooperation duties. A visible mark does not eliminate the possibility of false or out-of-scope documentation.

Which changes matter when expanding a product family?

Identify model, power, material, software, intended-use and critical-component differences. Assess whether current evidence represents the new variant. Follow change conditions where third parties participate. Keep technical files, declarations and instructions consistent with the current product before claiming expanded coverage.

What information is needed for a CE quotation?

Provide functions, specifications, operating environment, variant differences, markets, manufacturer role and existing reports. Separate file review, testing, possible redesign and third-party activities in quotations. A single price based on incomplete scope may omit necessary work. Plan timing around sample and technical-information readiness.
