Choosing machinery CE technical support and assessment bodies
Separate product consultancy, testing and any legally required notified-body assessment when comparing machinery CE providers.
Compare defined technical work
Ask a provider to identify the deliverables: machine-boundary review, risk-assessment support, drawing checks, test planning or technical-file coordination. Product-specific support is distinct from designing a client’s management system; a management-system certificate does not authorise machinery type-examination.
Name the manufacturer’s design owner and the person responsible for approving protective measures. Specify access to the actual machine and revision-controlled records. Kayra’s role is limited to the agreed technical preparation and coordination, without transferring the manufacturer’s legal responsibility.
Verify any notified-body assignment
If the selected Directive Article 12 route needs a notified body, verify its live NANDO entry for machinery category and procedure. Check the legal entity signing the contract and report, rather than relying on an accreditation logo or a laboratory’s unrelated scope.
A hypothetical quotation offers a “CE certificate” for a manually loaded press without reviewing its category, standards coverage or protective controls. Request that missing assessment first; a voluntary paper cannot replace the required conformity procedure.
Reject certificate-only proposals
Compare laboratory tests and body assessment as separate tasks, including samples, travel, redesign and retesting. Clarify who issues each output and how unresolved findings are closed. A consultant’s file review is not a notified-body certificate.
For supply from 20 January 2027, recheck Regulation 2023/1230 Article 25 and Annex I rather than carrying a Directive appointment forward by assumption. Neither consultancy nor a favourable preliminary review guarantees a conformity decision or public-authority acceptance.

For “Choosing machinery CE technical support and assessment bodies”, share the machine function, current model and design revision, intended use, planned EU placement date and available risk or test records. Agreed product preparation work does not replace the manufacturer’s declaration or a legally required notified-body procedure.
