Machinery CE changes, certificate review and surveillance
Distinguish ongoing conformity and change control from procedure-specific certificate review or notified-body surveillance.
CE does not have a universal annual renewal
CE marking has no universal annual renewal cycle. The manufacturer must maintain conformity of the supplied design and production. Separate routine maintenance, workplace inspections and customer contract checks from a legally specified conformity-assessment procedure.
If EC type-examination was used, read the actual certificate and body conditions. Directive Annex IX requires review of continuing validity every five years and communication of modifications to the approved type. Full quality assurance has its own notified-body surveillance, rather than one schedule for all machines.
Evaluate technical changes before relying on old evidence
A hypothetical hydraulic machine receives a larger cylinder and a revised pressure setting after an earlier assessment. Reassess forces, protective measures and control behaviour; treating the change as a paid certificate extension without technical review leaves the evidence unresolved.
Create a change record linking the old and new configurations, risk assessment, affected requirements and verification. Decide which earlier calculations or tests remain representative. Notify the relevant body where its approved type or quality-assurance procedure requires it.
Check the actual certificate and procedure
Regulation 2023/1230 Article 52 preserves Directive EC type-examination certificates and approval decisions until expiry. That does not make every old design or new machine automatically compliant after 20 January 2027; review the new placement and applicable obligations separately.
Kayra’s agreed product support can organise change evidence and coordinate a relevant body request. The manufacturer or actual body makes its assigned decision. No automatic renewal, mandatory annual consultancy or favourable surveillance result is promised.
