Choosing EN 1090 support: define deliverables and decision boundaries
Compare preparation services against the actual structural product and production gaps. Keep design, testing and the responsible body’s assessment separate; a consultancy contract cannot promise certification.
Buy work that addresses the actual gap
Identify the structural component or kit, relevant manufacturing sites and existing evidence before comparing offers. Request a written preparation scope tied to those inputs: which records will be reviewed, which gaps investigated and which responses coordinated. A standard manual supplied without checking the real operations is a weak basis for selecting support.
Separate preparation from design responsibility, laboratory work and the responsible body’s assessment. Where a notified body is required, check its current legal designation for the actual task independently. A consultant’s logo, agreement with a body or experience statement does not establish that designation or transfer the manufacturer’s obligations.
A borrowed welding file is not a deliverable
Conditional example: an offer includes a complete welding file copied from another plant, while the applicant uses a different joining process and subcontractor. Ask how the actual processes, people and product requirements will be investigated and how missing evidence will be obtained. Reject a file whose only adaptation is changing the company name.
Keep original records and any unresolved applicability visible. Preparation can organise review and coordinate competent specialists; it cannot turn another factory’s evidence into proof of the applicant’s work. Required design, process or personnel evidence must be established for the actual scope rather than invented to make a package look complete.
Make handover and excluded tasks explicit
Agree named deliverables, input owners, review points and a handover format that the manufacturer can maintain. State separately who orders external testing, performs production controls and submits responses. Missing inputs, excluded specialist work and changes after the quotation should remain visible in the contract.
Kayra can support evidence preparation and coordination. The manufacturer remains responsible for actual production and its declaration; the responsible body makes its assigned assessment and certification decisions. Assess the offer by completed work and usable evidence, not a guaranteed certificate, a fixed approval date or approval of the whole construction project.
