EN 1090 preparation for structural components and kits
Define the supplied steel or aluminium component, structural use and manufacturing scope before preparing EN 1090 evidence. Separate raw-material reports, execution requirements and actual conformity decisions.
Start with the supplied component and its structural use
EN 1090-1:2009+A1:2011 concerns assessment of performance for structural steel and aluminium components and kits placed on the market as construction products. Describe what the manufacturer actually supplies, the intended structural function, variants and manufacturing operations. A workshop that works with metal does not automatically have every output within this scope.
Part 1 addresses conformity assessment; the execution requirements for steel and aluminium are addressed by other parts of the series. Check the applicable product specification and its actual Official Journal citation. The Commission’s February 2026 summary includes Part 1, but is informational; the current CPR transition must be checked for the product family instead of assuming every new regulation immediately replaces the old route.
A steel supplier’s report does not assess the finished frame
Conditional example: a manufacturer supplies a welded load-bearing frame kit and submits only the steel supplier’s material reports. The finished kit also has defined geometry, joints and installation interfaces. Link the supplied configuration and claimed performance to relevant design and manufacturing evidence; the original steel reports cannot by themselves establish the finished frame’s performance.
Record who provides design information, which operations occur at each site and how accepted materials and work are traceable to the supplied kit. Identify missing evidence and actual production-control work before an assessment request. Do not change a supplier report’s product name to make it appear to cover the completed frame, or invent a resistance value.
Assign preparation and conformity responsibilities separately
Kayra can organise the scope comparison, evidence register and preparation plan. The manufacturer supplies accurate product information and implements the applicable production controls. Select a conformity body only for the tasks and scope assigned by the applicable system; preparation of a file is not that body’s assessment or certification decision.
After the required assessment and verification work, the manufacturer issues the applicable declaration and fulfils CE duties. Match the declared product and evidence to the actual supplied configuration. A production-control certificate is not a general approval of every design, all installation work or a whole construction project; project suitability remains a separate decision.
