EN 1090 cost and timing: quote actual scope, gaps and assessment work
Separate preparation, production work and external assessment in a real quotation. Product variants, sites, processes and evidence gaps determine tasks; a component weight or a copied certificate does not establish the price or completion date.
Define the work included in the quotation
Provide the supplied component families, materials, manufacturing sites, operations, relevant design inputs and existing controls. Identify the applicable product and assessment scope before asking for a price. Separate preparation support from actual production improvements and independently quoted assessment, testing or other external work that is genuinely required.
Ask what is included, who provides missing inputs, how completion is demonstrated and how changes affect the quotation. Record exclusions and any unresolved scope decisions. Neither the standard’s purchase price nor a fee to organise documents is the total cost of achieving and maintaining the required product and production evidence.
Similar frame size does not imply identical evidence work
Conditional example: the quotation covers two equally sized frame families, one welded steel and one bolted aluminium, with different materials and manufacturing operations. The initial estimate treats them as a single family because their outside dimensions match. Compare the actual product and process scope and available evidence before accepting that assumption.
Determine what records remain relevant, what real controls or further work are missing and which external tasks need separate quotations. Do not promise the same cost per frame or invent a universal test package. If key drawings, process information or scope decisions are missing, record those dependencies and make the estimate conditional rather than disguising an unknown as an agreed price.
Use evidence milestones rather than a promised certificate date
Plan scope confirmation, collection of usable records, completion of actual controls, submission and response to findings as distinct milestones. A completed preparation document does not mean the assessment body has accepted the evidence. Availability of responsible people, external work and correction outcomes can change the calendar.
Kayra can prepare the task breakdown and track agreed dependencies. The manufacturer implements its controls and supplies accurate inputs; the responsible body decides its assessment and certification. Confirm the resulting scope before declaration and CE tasks. Do not assign a guaranteed approval date, fixed renewal charge or universal surveillance cost to every application.
