EN 1090 EXC1, EXC2, EXC3 and EXC4: connect class to real execution
Establish the specified execution class and applicable steel or aluminium requirements. Compare the actual operations and evidence with that scope; changing a class label does not change production capability.
Read the class in its applicable specification
EXC1 to EXC4 are execution-class designations; they are not consumer quality ratings or separate approvals of every construction project. Read the actual execution specification and the responsible design decision for the work. Where the class is missing or contradictory, resolve it with the responsible parties before choosing production evidence or quoting an upgrade.
Keep the standard parts distinct. EN 1090-1:2009+A1:2011 addresses product conformity assessment; EN 1090-2:2018+A1:2024 addresses steel execution and EN 1090-3:2019 aluminium execution. Check the applicable edition, scope and project requirements rather than transferring a steel table automatically to aluminium. Catalogue status is not proof of the harmonised legal CE reference.
A revised EXC requirement is not a cover-page change
Conditional example: a revised execution specification requires EXC3 for the supplied steel assembly, while the factory presents an existing EXC2 assessment scope and unchanged production records. Do not alter the certificate or file cover to EXC3. Identify the requirement differences for the actual operations, evidence and responsible assessment before accepting the order as covered.
Investigate the real material, joining work, personnel, subcontracted operations and control arrangements against the confirmed requirements. A higher class requested in a contract is not evidence that these tasks have been performed. Keep capability gaps and the need for scope review explicit; this guide does not assign classes from building names or invent universal inspection percentages.
Build a requirement-to-operation evidence map
Map each applicable requirement to an operation, responsible person, record and acceptance decision. Distinguish existing usable evidence from work still to be done; determine the required method and extent from the actual specification. Do not fabricate old inspection records to make a class change appear complete.
The responsible designers and project parties establish the execution requirements; the manufacturer implements and records production. The body decides its assigned assessment scope, while Kayra can coordinate the gap map and preparation. Class, certificate scope, product performance declaration and suitability for the project must be checked separately.
