GAR assessment: representative samples, gas safety evidence and production closure
Follow the assessed appliance version from technical requirements through sample examination and actual production controls.
Plan the assessment against the actual design
Map the actual appliance/fitting design and intended operating conditions to applicable essential requirements. The technical file and representative sample must describe the same version. EU-type examination reviews design and examines a representative production type; the production module subsequently addresses conformity of manufactured products to that type.
Identify the safety questions, methods and justified evidence: gas release, ignition, combustion products, temperatures and safety/control behaviour as relevant. The manufacturer’s competent laboratory or another laboratory may provide defined supporting results; no unsupported rule says every technical-file result must come from an independent laboratory. The notified body retains its required assessment tasks.
Hypothetical case: a changed flame-supervision control
A heater sample was assessed with one flame-supervision control, but purchasing substitutes a different sensor and controller in production. Obtain circuit/BOM revisions, control specifications, software or settings where relevant, test configurations and manufacturing instructions. Identify the effect on ignition, flame failure, gas shut-off and other applicable requirements for competent review.
Refer changes that may affect essential requirements or certificate conditions to the body holding the type documentation. Record the additional assessment and any certificate supplement required; do not infer either a passing or failing result. A purchasing approval cannot settle a product-safety or approved-type question.
Close evidence and production actions
Track each action by requirement, affected model/revision, competent responsible party and closure evidence. Check that resolved changes reach production checks, marking and instructions. An updated drawing alone does not show that the actual manufactured gas train follows the assessed design; verify the selected production procedure separately.
Kayra can organise the action register and technical coordination. The manufacturer, laboratory and notified body retain their respective decisions and duties. The next action is controlled closure of the flame-supervision change and affected release scope, rather than signing off a generic document checklist.
